My H&H Story: Sergio Bonilla

My H&H Story: Sergio Bonilla

THE FIRST, BUT NOT THE LAST

Sergio Bonilla is a high school student from Remolino, and he recently pursued an internship in Accounting. Following his internship, he was offered a job! This is the first time any of the students in Remolino have been offered a job outside of the village.

Sergio has a desire to further his education to study medicine. He wants to help people and be an example of a positive change for himself and his family.

“I like to help others so I think that’s a good option to be a doctor. I also think it would help the community because it will bring new benefits like a clinic and a doctor nearby.”

Sergio loved growing up in Remolino since everyone knows each other. He described his childhood as very happy and he enjoyed exploring new places around the community.

He has a dream that the streets can get fixed in Remolino and that everybody has their own house and job. With this dream in mind, Sergio has a strong determination to continue studying hard in school to open new opportunities and get ahead in his work. He believes studying can change our world.

To encourage kids to continue studying, Sergio says “Do not get discouraged because at the beginning it can be difficult but by striving, everything can be achieved.”

Sergio describes his teachers and foundation leaders as a second set of parents.

“They support us. I believe they have done a good job and I’m really thankful because not everybody likes to help people.”

Aminta, who led the education pillar of H&H for three years described Sergio as a “warrior who clung to his dreams.”

Sergio has a deep gratitude to everyone that supported him. “I am very thankful. I am thankful to God and my family. Without their help, I would not be here now and I would not be graduating this year.”

Sergio is excited about all of the opportunities opening up for him. We strongly believe this is only the beginning for Sergio and all he will accomplish. He is the first to experience this opportunity in Remolino, but we know he won’t be the last!

Sergio, we are so proud of you. You are an inspiration to us and your entire community.
