Thank you for helping us provide floodproof homes for families in Honduras.
Meet Doña Prudencia
A single mother who has faced the challenged of poverty all her life, Doña Prudencia Zavala spent years raising her children in a fragile home deep in the Sula Valley. She lives at the constant mercy of the nearby river flooding, routinely evacuating her home, and then returning to find their belongings ruined.
Yet even amid hardship, she thought of others. Years ago, when Humanity & Hope first began partnering with La Cuchilla, she donated a piece of her own land so a water tower could provide clean water to her community. Though she had little, she chose to give.
Throughout the years, she patiently waited and prayed for a new home, holding onto hope while enduring the challenges of poverty.
This year, her dream became a reality when H&H received the funds to build her a safe, floodproof home, and a team of volunteers helped construct it in July. Now, she has a stilted home with two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room built for her and her youngest daughter.
Darwin Suazo, on the H&H staff, shared that the moment she stepped inside, her face lit up with joy and gratitude. Now able to live with her family in a safe, floodproof home, Doña Prudencia’s house stands as a symbol of stability, dignity, and God’s faithfulness —a powerful reminder that even the smallest acts of generosity can come full circle and build hope.
