Why bathrooms?
The answer is super simple: Bathrooms will change lives by combating disease, restoring dignity, providing safety, and even increasing school attendance!
1. combating disease
Good health builds hope! Lack of proper sanitation is a leading cause of preventable diseases like cholera, typhoid, and various intestinal parasites. Building bathrooms for CDP will interrupt the transmission cycle of these illnesses. This is particularly crucial for children, who are most vulnerable.
2. restoring dignity
Dignity builds hope! Not having a private, clean place to use the toilet is undignified and deeply embarrassing. Building bathrooms for CDP restores dignity by providing privacy and cleanliness.
3. Providing Safety for Women and Girls
Feeling safe builds hope! The absence of private and clean sanitation facilities can force women and girls to wait until dark to relieve themselves, exposing them to safety risks because its dark and health problems due to postponing what should be done immediately. Building bathrooms next to the houses in CDP will significantly improve the safety and health of women and girls.
4. Increasing School Attendance
Education builds hope! Without clean and safe bathrooms, girls are much more likely than boys to miss school because of menstruation. Building bathrooms in CDP will be a critical factor in these young women's ability to complete their education, which in turn opens up future opportunities.
